I love Christmas, spending time with friends and family; taking some well deserved time out to relax and rewind, as well as enjoying the festivities.
We all naturally have our own Christmas wish lists, but don’t forget what is it that you can give as a present?
What do you think is the most valuable gift you could give this Christmas? It's you; it's about being present in conversations.
Have you ever been part of, been guilty of or observed conversations where someone:
is not listening
keeps butting in
is talking over
changes topics
knows better
Giving your time and quality attention to someone is a genuinely important gift and very motivating. It shows your are interested and engaging with what they are saying.
I imagine, we've all been in the situation where, hilariously, someone knows the story better than the storyteller themselves. They talk over them, they've been there or done that, or know someone else that has. It's painful to watch and pretty deflating for the person reliving their special holiday/ family gathering / funny anecdote, etc.
Just remember, it is the storyteller's tale to tell.
