"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"
A great quote attributed to Albert Einstein.
I'd encourage us to all read it again and ask ourselves if we sometimes over complicate matters.
Perhaps sometimes we do this on purpose to make ourselves look clever, alternatively maybe because we misinterpret what the recipient needs to hear in order to understand.
I love the phrase 'but they need to know all the background and the detail', but do they really?
We can easily throw too much information at people or make assumptions on what they do or don’t already know.
If you are knowledgeable about your subject matter you should be able to explain it in a simple way that everyone can understand.
Try explaining your ideas using the following:
what
why
when
who
where and
how
Keep it simple and adapt your message for the benefit of the person or people you are explaining it to.
It makes life a lot easier.
