Well, in a nut shell yes, but...!
There are obviously types of careers that can give more security and will be required for a very long time.
For instance, computer programming. This may be a very good choice for anyone starting out or looking to change careers.
However, there is a danger. If you work for an organisation that doesn’t regularly update it's way of working, computer systems and software solutions to tackle real-world industry problems, you can become out of date very easily.
This could the same for any career choices from finance to lawyers to medical research to retail. If you stand still for too long you could be at a real disadvantage
So what’s the answer?
By proactively managing yourself and your Future Proofing Journey, you can constantly:
Reflect on what skills you have and what your chosen industry requires
Learn new skills and ways of working
Gain experiences and network with great people
Apply the above so people want to employ you and pay you money
Never take anything for granted and enjoy what you do
If you don’t look after yourself who is going to do it for you?
It’s your professional responsibility to yourself to stay relevant and of value for the rest of your career.
